Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens is a wonderful museum located in El Paso, Texas. Our family came across this gem when traveling through El Paso. The museum and gardens are part of the University of Texas, El Paso and include the most diverse array of plants I have seen in a while. My husband has the green thumb in the family, so he was in sheer heaven in the gardens. It was quite interesting to see how many desert botanical there are. There are so many species of cacti and other rare botanical species which all looked amazing in one place. The Centennial museum was first established in 1937 and run by the city but in recent years was operated by the University. This museum houses a collection of geological treasures. I am a bit of a history and geology buff and loved the exhibits in this museum. They also had an exhibit while we were there that displayed the culture of the indigenous people of the area. This was also very interested to our family. It is so fascinating to learn about cultures who lived on the land years and years ago. The museum and gardens were not crowded so it was a pleasant experience to to walk around and enjoy the museum and gardens without feeling rushed. Our six year old daughter found the paleontology exhibit to be amazing. She loves dinosaurs and this museum has an exhibit with vertebrate and invertebrate fossils as well as algae and other species that lived two billion years ago in the area of Big Bend. It is remarkable to see in person and we could not get enough. I think we spent most of the time in this exhibit which of course was due to my daughters love of dinosaurs.
